I saw an ad somewhere today. I think it was on my yahoo page when I was checking my email. It said "Find YOUR Version of Happiness Today." I did not check to see what the ad was for, because I do not believe that happiness can be sold or found by a company that is running an ad for it. But there is something about this sentence that I like very much and I believe in very much. Even if someone found happiness and was able to mass produce it and put it in beautiful little bottles and sell it, it would not work. It would not work for other people because as different as we all are from one another, what makes each of us purely and genuinely happy is different. Maybe the difference does not alter the essence, but just like chocolate, happiness does come in different forms and flavors and wrapping and mixed with milk, or nuts, or raisins, or crackers. Chocolate is chocolate all the same. But all of you chocolate lovers know how different they all are, right? This is why those who are happy and want to make their miserable friends happy too, usually fail miserably. They would not fail, I believe, if instead of force-feeding their own happiness chocolate recipe they would settle for just saying how they came up with it. They tried different mixtures. They tasted them all. They tried to get in touch with their taste buds, and ... so on. This is why we cannot expect our loved ones to just accept our happy-chocolate and live happily ever after with it. This is why we each have to try different things to add to our chocolates and taste them all and throw up on some of them and like some of them and work our ways toward finding our glorious, taste buds rocking, happiness injecting, perfectly wrapped chocolate recipe. All I am trying to say is that if none of the ones you have already tasted is the one you are looking for, don't be sad. You are different. As long as you do not need to add other people's body parts to your recipe (harm principle 101) its OK. Explore. Experiment. Be a little existential son of a gun and find your damn version of happiness. Define it. Make it. Find it. AND THEN. Cherish it. Taste it. Love it. live with it. Ummmmmmm ... sweeeeeet taste of your chocolate. YOUR chocolate :)
