For Victims of Migraine



For those of you who live with a straight up pain in the neck called the "Migraine", I am writing this. I have lived with it since I was 13 and I just thought that I should write everything that works for me down, so that it may help another person in pain one day. 

1. The very first thing I learned (when this whole thing started) was that: under NO circumstances ... no matter how bad the freaking pain is DO NOT CRY! It amplifies the misery and leaves you helpless. 

2. Sleeping on the pain (if it is a real migraine) most of the times does NOT work ... you will wake up with the pain and a very very bad mood ... So take care of it, then go to bed. 

3. You would think that since coffee has caffeine and all these pain killers have caffeine as an ingredient, its a good idea to drink coffee, but NO, it is NOT. 

4. Do not chain smoke ... (this might seem like an obvious one ... but trust me when you pass a certain point in nicotine addiction nothing is a red flag for smoking).

5. Take care of it as soon as you realize it is starting, don't wait for it to fuck you over. 

6. Use HEAD-ON !!!! i know the commercial is a pain in the ass but it WORKS. It heats up the painful area and is an immediate relief until the pills kick in. 

7. Tylenol and Advil do NOT work on ME. The only pill that works for me is Excedrin Migraine (take 2 pills 500 mg).

8. If the pain is absolutely unbearable .... OD on the pill ... take 3 ... the headache is gonna go away fast (well cuz you are numb) ... you are going to feel nauseous for 15-45 minutes and then everything is back to normal ... but thats like emergency hardcore substance abuse!!! don't push it!  For people who don't have migraine this might sound dumb ... but trust me you are in NOOOOO position to judge ... sometimes you even rather lose a kidney than having the headache.

9. This one works wonderssssssss for me ... but it all depends on the unique characteristics of your migraine ... taking a HOT shower ... or putting a hot towel on the forehead is the BEST thing for mine, which explains why HEAD-ON works well also. 

10. If you have sensitivity to light and sound ... TAKE IT SERIOUSLY ... do not poke yourself ... even if you need to wear shades at night for an hour ... well i would do it ... i don't know how self conscious you are !
